Ash Wednesday serviceAt Columbia Lakewood Community Church, February 13, please plan to attend our annual traditional Ash Wednesday service. As we begin the season of Lent, this somber, sacred service reminds us of our mortality and need for repentance in our lives. Service is at 7pm. A light supper of bread and soup will be served beginning at 6pm. Become a Master Urban Naturalist in Seward ParkAre you a Seward Park enthusiast with an interest in Pacific Northwest ecology? Do you like to share what you know with others? Are you over 18 years old? If you answered yes! to all of these questions, Seward Park Audubon's Master Urban Naturalist (MUN) program is your match. The MUN program provides free beginner level naturalist training classes and certification in exchange for 20 hours of donated service over the course of one year.

Help make a difference in the life of a youthMission: To inspire and enable young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. Are you looking for a way to give back to your community? We're looking for volunteers to support our educational programming here at the Rainier Vista Boys & Girls Club. On average we serve roughly 200 youth, ages 5 to 18, per day from Rainier Valley. Education and academic success are key elements here at the Boys & Girls Club. We provide Club members with opportunities that incorporate high yield learning activities and focus on academic skill building. Your help is needed to encouragement youth to become self-directed learners.

Columbia Library, Sunday, February 17, 1pm-2:30pm Bring a book that you recently read and liked. Share your fiction and nonfiction suggestions and get ideas for what to read next. open plots at Dakota p-patchThere are several open plots in the Dakota P-Patch (in Dakota Park at the north end of NRV West, between S Dakota St and S Lilac St, west of MLK, next door to the Seattle Community Farm). P-Patch waiting lists average about 3 years, but everyone on our list has passed on the open plots. Speak up now and you could be in the garden this spring!

West Seattle Bridge ramp closuresIf you're heading eastbound from West Seattle to Beacon Hill or I-5 this President's Day weekend, read on or go to wsdot.wa.gov. Beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, road construction crews will close the West Seattle Bridge ramps to both directions of I-5, and S. Columbian Way. The ramps will reopen by 5 a.m. Tuesday. Signed detours will direct drivers around the closures using Fourth Ave S.
