In this week's blogossiphere, a home builder has posted about terroir, or sense of place. And that set this Wikli to thinking. What helps define ours? A landmark district? Check. Neighbor-owned & operated businesses? Certainly. Folks who know each other & see each other regularly? But of course. Good spaces to come together with friends? Mmm-hmm. A comfortable walking environment? Youbetcha. All that and much, much more.

Columbia Library's new open hours

Columbia Library is now open 7 days a week. The expanded operating hours are funded by a levy approved by voters in August, 2013

Mondays-Thursdays: 10am-8pm
Fridays & Saturdays: 10am-6pm
Sundays:1pm-5pm

silent auction of artwork at Columbia City Gallery

The Columbia City Gallery is hosting the 6th Annual Silent Auction (by Secret Bid) of Artwork by Gallery Artists. This is a unique opportunity to collect work from your favorite local artist. You can view artwork in the auction in the gallery between January 16 and January 27. The artists will set minimum bids. We'll accept bids January 16 through 27, 2013. You may bid in person, on the phone or via email. We'll notify winners by February 1.

Southeast District Council

Below is the agenda for the January 23, 2013, Southeast District Council meeting. The meeting will be from 6:30 to 8:00pm at the Rainier Community Center. All SEDC meetings are open to the public.

We'll select three transportation projects to submit to SDOT. I’ve listed the 8 projects, and attached project summaries. There is supporting material for each project too voluminous to email – we have burned it to a few CDs, and you may pick one up at the SW Neighborhood Service Center/Pool/Teen Life Center, 2801 SW Thistle Ave., across the street from Chief Sealth High School. The NSC is open weekdays between 10am and 5pm.
