Cinema Under the Stars presents "The Lorax"Saturday August 18, SEEDArts and the Columbia City Advisory Board are pleased to announce "Cinema Under the Stars", an outdoor movie in Columbia City featuring “The Lorax.” The outdoor event will be in Columbia Park (4721 Rainier Ave S) just behind the Columbia City library. Cinema Under the Stars begins at 7pm with a community picnic, followed by the film at about 8:30. Folks can bring blankets, low back lawn chairs and picnic food. Concessions will be available for sale; free soda has been donated by Pepsi. The Lorax is an adaptation of Dr. Seuss' classic tale of a forest creature who shares the enduring power of hope. The animated adventure follows the journey of a boy as he searches for the one thing that will enable him to win the affection of the girl of his dreams. To find it he must discover the story of the Lorax, the grumpy yet charming creature who fights to protect his world.

Volunteer to help homeless kidsEvery fall through Project COOL, Seattle/King County Coalition on Homelessness members and volunteers make sure that hundreds of homeless children and youth start the school year off right by providing backpacks and school supplies. Project COOL will be at Columbia City Church of Hope (in the basement) counting, sorting, and organizing supplies to fill backpacks for distribution. Give them a hand for an hour or an afternoon! Groups are welcome, and so are children (with an adult companion). We need volunteers on August 2, 4, 11, and 14. Shifts are from 9am -noon or 12:30-3:30pm, and we provide lunch. Please sign up to help — thanks! Columbia City Church of Hope
