your Wikli-fix: homegrown solutions

When the world seems to be coming apart at the seams…

let's see, I'm sure we've got a needle and thread around here somewhere.

Citizens are stepping up to do what they can (and can they ever) to make things work.

32nd Street Singers

The 32nd Street Singers are a new four-part harmony ensemble with passion and humor. Most of the group grew up in Columbia City, Seward Park and Mount Baker. They started singing together at Franklin High School in the late 60s. The group's repertoire includes spiritual classics, melodic English and French ballads, plus baby boomer favorites, including the music of James Taylor, the Mamas and the Papas and the Beatles.

This free concert, which is part of Harvest the Arts, is at 3pm on Sunday Nov 6 at the Mount Baker Community Club, 2811 Mount Rainier Drive

Seattle theater stars

Just in time to help struggling families for Thanksgiving, Columbia City Church of Hope is throwing a one-of-a-kind benefit concert you won't want to miss. This Friday, November 4 at 7pm at Columbia City Church of Hope, 3818 South Angeline St.

Fourteen of Seattle's brightest stars of the musical theatre are coming together for one night to sing their favorite songs from their favorite shows. Join these incredibly talented Broadway vets, Footlight Award winners and Gregory Award nominees, as they sing songs from Sondheim to Jason Robert Brown, Stephen Schwartz to Jonathan Larson, all in the name of a great cause.

We're working with three local food banks to prepare a list of the most needed items. Admission will be three food items from the list or a cash donation (suggested donation $25).
