how to start a children's book clubIf you've been thinking about starting a children's book club, I'll suggest children's book titles that are fun to read and interesting to discuss in a book group. I'll also share some tips for facilitating children's book clubs. We'll focus on titles appropriate for ages 8-12 years old and include some graphic novels (comics). I'll hand out a reading list and resources for further information for adults who want to start a book club for kids, as well as information about using the library meeting room. There will be time for children to share a "Good Read" of their own. For adults and children. August 15, 4 - 5:30pm at the Columbia library.

world-class old-time banjo, gypsy folk & erotic poetryAfter a great week at the Theater, we're gearing up for another one. Thursday night our friends at Hearth Music are presenting what they've dubbed an "Old Timey Evening to Remember" with world-class banjo player Frank Fairfield and an unexpected side project from Doug Yule of Velvet Underground … a string band called Red Dog. Friday night we've got an evening of vaudevillian gypsy folk and punk with Blvd Park, Ashia Grzesik, Eliza Rickman and Bat Country. And Saturday's all about Afrodesiac's titillating erotic poetry performances.
