your Wikli-fix: get out!

Our region's most-buzzed-about bands, an international shopping tour, the area's freshest produce, alleys full of art, the Valley's biggest celebration… Tell anyone that all this could happen in one little neighborhood and they'd hardly believe you. ''Get out!" — exactly right.

call for artists & craftspeople, Art in the Alley applications

The Columbia City Gallery is accepting applications from artists and craftspeople in all media to participate in Art in the Alley, Southeast Seattle's outdoor visual arts festival. Every year, we fill the alley just to the north of the Gallery with art and the artists who make it. This year, we are pleased to be partnering with Rainier Valley Summer Streets Block Party and Parade, which will bring hundreds of potential customers to the neighborhood. Art in the Alley is on Saturday, August 20th from 11 am – 5 pm. You can download vendor applications on the front page of our website.

CD release, Portland's most-buzzed-about band & more

We've got a great calendar of events to close out July at Columbia City Theater. On Thursday we'll be welcoming Portland's biggest buzz band "Radiation City" and their dreamy, '60s bossa-nova inspired avant-pop.

Friday Soft Hill, Surrealized and Neighbors are sure to bring a party. Saturday we'll be celebrating the release of one of Seattle's best up-and-coming singer songwriters debut album and Sunday we'll be giving praise and helping a great cause with One Summer Night: An evening of Gospel and Jazz to benefit CHAMPS Resource and Service Center of South Seattle.

Columbia City Farmers Market

Heads up everybody — literally! We replaced the unsightly "no-park" A-boards from Edmunds street with (pricey!) permanent signs from the City. Please notice the no-park zones on market Wednesdays. Thanks!

This Wednesday, July 27 at your market…

  • Razey Family Orchards returns for the season
  • Tonnemakers "Attika" cherries are amazing — like super plump, meaty Bings
  • Music: The (venerable) Canote Brothers.
  • Kids Tent: The Makery
  • The MaxMobile returns!

great grilled chicken @ Rainier & Holly

On July 4th weekend we enjoyed delicious pollo from the Northeast corner of Rainier and Holly — look for the sign. I'd seen the large grill cooking up chicken feasts for 2-3 weeks, and I finally stopped by.

Martin had several golden brown chickens and half-chickens: I bought a whole, large grilled chicken for $13. Throw in $2 more, you also get rice, beans & salsa. Another buck gets you homemade corn tortillas.

The chicken was a total hit at my neighborhood Brandon St. July 4th potluck, and we have enjoyed it twice since. Always moist and delicious. Open Friday thru Sunday, for now.
