Columbia City ArtWalk -- Bohemian BackstreetsLast month, Community Arts Create kicked off the first Columbia City ArtWalk, Bohemian Backstreets. There were art vendors of all kinds, youth marimba groups and steel pan groups, a performance dance group, a puppet performance, specialty ice-cream by Chef Allyss Dillon, art activities by non-profit Social HeARTistry Educators, and a community art project with CleanScapes trashcans. With activities that anyone can enjoy, young or old, and a variety of art to soak up, Bohemian Backstreets is a fun summer event that everyone can attend. Next month's ArtWalk is June 16 — it will be event better with more artists, performers, and art activities.

Green Teens campThe purpose of this camp is to give youth a fun, safe, and educational opportunity outdoors. This camp is hosted by Rainier Community Center and will take place at Cheasty Green Space on Beacon Hill. Participants of this camp can earn up to 30 service hours toward graduation. Let’s see how much Columbia City REALLY readsIt's a fact: Research shows that children who read as few as 4 or 5 books during the summer experience less summer setback, and research also shows that a summer reading loss of 3 months accumulates to a 2 year gap by the time children reach middle school. That's why the Seattle Public Library has offered a children's Summer Reading Program for the past 92 years. But summer reading is not just for kids, so there are fun incentives for teen and adults who read during the summer as well.

Valley & Mountain Fellowship celebrationValley & Mountain is a spiritual community/church based in Columbia City with a mission to: build a radically inclusive community, rooted in love, that practices deep listening and creative liberation. It is made up of people with all kinds of perspectives who are brought together by a common desire to create a more just and peaceful world and to develop spiritual maturity in the context of an open and supportive community. Celebrations are one manifestation of what this community is, and involves a mix of meditation, yoga, art, poetry, music, making sandwiches for the food bank, a reflection, and a shared meal.
