BeatWalk's back, Friday June 3rd

It's the second Columbia City BeatWalk of the 2011 season and we've got an unprecedented number of venues for you to check out this month, including new venues Chelsea Deli, New Freeway Hall and State Farm Insurance. Just $7 gets you into all the venues all night long from 7-10PM. Kids are free! Come out and enjoy a fun June night with your neighbors and fellow music lovers.

Columbia City Farmers Market

Columbia City market farmers attended a training that will allow them to take WIC fruit and veggie checks. WIC clients have previously only been able to use these checks at grocery stores. Now WIC clients can shop Seattle's amazing foodshed for the freshest, most nutritious fruit and veggies in town!

new lobby & three great shows

After a couple days closed, we've got a brand new look and taste in The Bourbon Bar. We've removed two of the doors, opening up the space and we've got a new menu of delicious bites to go along with the new look. You'll now find special happy hour snacks, a delicious shrimp po boy, BBQ Chicken and more on the new menu. Stop on in for a drink, a nosh and a look at the new lobby.

South Seattle Music School summer camp

A new music camp this summer! A partnership of music teachers looking to open a studio to teach instrumental/rock music lessons in South Seattle. We are kicking off with a summer music camp at the Lakewood/Seward Park Community Center this July and August.

Ages 8-18 are welcome to register. We'd love for you to spread the word to anyone interested in starting their child on an instrument, check out the details at southseattlemusicschool.com

SPLAB Word Orchestra

SPLAB's word orchestra, a multi-voice poetry performance group will be performing at this year's Folk Life Festival.

Valley Vibes Jazz series premiere

The Valley Vibes Jazz Concert and Conversation Series opens Friday, June 10, 7pm, with the Marc Seales Group and the Seattle JazzED Intermediate Ensemble at the Rainier Valley Cultural Center (RVCC), 3515 S. Alaska Street, Columbia City. Admission is free or by donation.

For two decades, in-demand pianist, composer, and educator (University of Washington) Marc Seales has served as a mentor to young talent. He is a leading jazz figure in the Northwest and has toured and performed with many jazz greats, including Don Lanphere, Joe Henderson, Art Pepper, and Bobby Hutcherson. Seales performs June 10 at RVCC in his sextet ensemble, which includes bassist Paul Gabrielson, drummer Steve Korn, and percussionist Lary Barilleau.
