World Food Day + Free Acupuncture!

October 16th marks World Food Day. Join the Community Acupuncture Project of Columbia City in gathering donations for the Rainier Valley Food Bank and participate in free acupuncture as our way of saying thank you for supporting our community.

Food — like health care — is one of the most basic human needs. Did you know that 1 in 6 people on the planet suffer from hunger and malnutrition? That's 1 billion people, an increase of 105 million people from 2008!

You can make a difference by bringing your food donations to the Community Acupuncture Project of Columbia City between October 1st and 16th. All donations will be given to local food banks.

To say thanks, the Community Acupuncture Project of Columbia City, located at 3811 S Ferdinand @ Rainier, will be providing free acupuncture treatments all day on Friday, October 16th. Schedule appointments online at www.acupunctureforall.org.

Board Game Group

OK, so it's been seven months since trying the first meetup — I think I wasn't paying attention and chose Oscar night… it was kind of a flop.

Is anyone still interested in doing this? I was talking with the guy at Full Tilt this evening and he was receptive of the idea of meeting up there. There are a ton of advantages to this place:

  • AMAZING ice cream AND beer!
  • Open late
  • Not too loud
  • a table in the back
  • vintage arcade games and pinball machines if you're waiting for another group to wrap up a game, or for a break between games.

Columbia City Community Choir

Looking for a way to have fun, connect with your neighbors and make a joyful noise? Then come and help launch the Columbia City Community Choir (CCCC) on Tues., Oct. 13, directed by longtime Rainier Valley neighbor Kathleen Tracy.

The Columbia City Community Choir welcomes people of all ages and cultures to come together in a fun, inclusive and spirited singing community. There is no audition, and no singing experience is required, just a desire to sing in harmony with others. No music reading ability is necessary as much of the music is learned in the oral tradition. The repertoire includes a rich variety of songs and chants from many different cultures and singing traditions.

The Columbia City Community Choir's first month of rehearsals take place on Tuesdays 7:30-9pm Oct 13, 20, 27 & Nov 3 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church (S Angeline St) in Columbia City ($10 suggested donation per rehearsal).

Columbia City in the blogossiphere

Amber at the Rainier Valley Post says she doesn't want direct links from the Wikli's blogossiphere over her concern that gossip just isn't her brand. We still encourage you to check out her blog.
