Columbia City Cinema

Seattle's Coolest Neighborhood Theater

Slumdog Millionaire is going to stick around for one more week. Starting Friday 3/20, it will move to a barrier-free access auditorium downstairs. Upstairs we're opening the apocalyptic Nicolas Cage film, Knowing. Cage does a great job in a pretty exciting flick. In case you want to forget everything that's going on, Knowing is a great way to do it.

We're also bringing the exceptionally beautiful and sublimely rendered, Coraline, for a short run. Word of warning, it's excellent but not for tiny kids. And ta da, we also have smack down week at the cinema with Mickey Roarke in The Wrestler. Then, starting on Friday, 3/27, finally a movie for the family, Dreamworks' new animated tale, Monsters vs. Aliens.

See you at the movies.

Columbia City Farmers Market

I know there's a lot of confusion out there regarding the future of the Columbia City Farmers Market, which makes total sense given the all that's happened over these past few years, from the Columbia Plaza property being slated for re-development to the unknown future of the Columbia School site, and a few of you may have noticed that the market lot has now been turned into a Diamond pay lot.

So here's what we know at this time:

  • The Market will stage in its current location this season (Opening Day is April 29th!!) and possibly next, depending upon the progress of Columbia Plaza's re-development (thanks to the generosity of HAL Real Estate Investments, the developers of Columbia Plaza).

Expanding Rainier Valley Gardens

In the draft Wikli, anonymous Citizens posted alerts — one about Skillet Street Food and another about the Downtown Emergency Service Center. This editor thinks anonymous posts are just fine, but it's best to offer them as comments. Let's reserve this space for posts that provide for followup.
