Baby Storytime Wednesday January 14 from 12 to 12:30 pm. Bring your baby to enjoy stories, rhymes, songs and fun with our children's librarian.
Preschool Storytime Bring your preschoolers on Friday January 16 at 10:30am to enjoy stories, rhymes, songs, and fun with our children's librarian. Grupo Bilingüe de Juegos / Bilingual Play and Learn Group Fridays from 11:30-1pm. Grupo bilingüe de juegos para padres y cuidadores con niños entre las edades de nacimiento hasta 5 años. / Bilingual play group for ages birth to 5. Teen Gaming Tuesday January 20th from 3-5 pm. Come by for open play on the Wii (including MarioKart!), sing to stardom on American Idol, and practice your dance skills with Dance Dance Revolution. (Ages 10-18) Homework Help Volunteers will assist students with homework on a drop in basis starting January 5th on Mon-Thu, 5-7:45pm. Remember, the library will be closed on Monday January 19th, in honor of Martin Luther King Jr Day. |
Make MLK a Day of Service for RVFBTo honor Martin Luther King, City Year and Blaine Memorial United Methodist Church have partnered with Rainier Valley Food Bank to make MLK Day a very special day of service. Volunteers will hold food drives on MLK Day to ensure that the RVFB shelves are well stocked. We need more volunteers to help out!

Landmarks review for Columbia PlazaThe next Landmarks Preservation committee meeting is a re-do, as the last meeting happened during the blizzard of '08. DON has posted the agenda. They meet Friday the 19th at 3:30 in the Library. The first items seem to be cosmetic changes to existing structures in the District. (These are classic historic homes in the heart of the district, background is here and here). At 4pm, the Landmarks Preservation Board's Architectural Review Committee joins the neighborhood committee. They're reviewing new development at Columbia Plaza. |

Theatre for a Change Fun/FundraiserTuesday, January 27, 2009 - 7pm at the Columbia City Gallery Join us for a benefit for the Rainier Valley Youth Theatre, featuring food, fun and festivities at the Columbia City Gallery (4864 Rainier Ave S). The Rainier Valley Youth Theatre is a multicultural, community-based theatre that fosters the personal and artistic development of youth through teaching the total craft of theatre.
