Columbia City Cinema

Finally, the week we've all been waiting for — James Bond comes to Columbia City in his latest thriller, Quantum of Solace. There's a special midnight showing on Thursday, 11/13.

Coming soon is Twilight and Bolt.

On Facebook? Join the Columbia City Cinema group. Just another great way to stay on top of all that's happening at Seattle's Coolest Neighborhood Cinema.

See you at the movies.

Friends of Columbia School

next meeting: Nov 15 at 10am in Tutta Bella

In the summer of 2009, the New School will leave the Columbia School for its new facility in Rainier Beach, and for the first time in more than 100 years a public school may not be operating in the heart of Columbia City. Over the coming year, Seattle Public Schools will likely decide what to do with the building. People have expressed lots of ideas about how the property could be reused.

Community members founded Friends of Columbia School (FoCS) to help inform, engage, and involve the community regarding the future use and development of Columbia School.

Please join us for coffee and a discussion about the future of this great community asset.

Help feed your neighbors this holiday season

To ensure that our pantry is well stocked for the holidays, Rainier Valley Food Bank (RVFB) will be holding a food drive, and we sure could use your help!

Where: The Safeway store at 3820 Rainier Ave S
When: Sat, Nov 15 & Sun Nov 16 from 10am – 6pm

What volunteering looks like: Volunteer shifts are two hours long. You'll pass out flyers to people entering the store (the flyers contain a grocery list with our most needed items). Some people will purchase items inside the store and drop them off with you. You give them a warm thank you and a smile and pack the groceries into the containers provided by RVFB.

How do I volunteer for this event? Call Michele at 617-1664 and sign up for a time and date!

community gardening in the Rainier Valley

Let's plant peas by President's Day! Come and meet with Seattle Tilth and P-Patch people on Friday, November 14th at 2:30 at the Rainier Community Center to strategize how to increase planting beds in the Valley.

Southeast Seattle has a long rich history of truck farms and family gardens. Let's explore how to truly eat local and work with our neighbors.

Can't come to the meeting but want to help? E-mail Diana Vergis Vinh.

BlueStreet Jazz Voices benefit dinner

Sun, Dec 7, Columbia City Theater (21+), 6 to 9pm

BlueStreet's benefit performance will feature not only the ensemble, our terrific trio, and several solo performers, but also dinner, the acclaimed chocolate buffet, a no-host bar, and an auction — all in Columbia City's jewel of a nightclub, Columbia City Theater!

We are a group of passionate amateur and professional musicians who care deeply about jazz. The 20-member ensemble has sold out venues including the Triple Door and Tula's. But we're also a community-based nonprofit dedicated to outreach and education. BlueStreet brings entertainment and a greater appreciation of jazz to students, seniors and other audiences through pro-bono performances of jazz standards, lush ballads, blues, latin, and contemporary jazz.

Columbia City in the blogossiphere

Amber at the Rainier Valley Post says she doesn't want direct links from the Wikli's blogossiphere over her concern that gossip just isn't her brand. We still encourage you to check out her blog.
