This Wednesday at the farmers market we're hosting an apple tasting: shoppers can sample some of the many varieties of apples grown by local farmers and vote for their favorites… as well as learn which apples make the best pies, sauce, snacks, etc.

With cooler weather we're seeing more root vegetables, winter squashes and hearty greens, but we've still got an abundance of tomatoes, peppers, summer squashes and dozens of other vegetables — everything you need for salads, soups, stir-fries, grilling. The market will be loaded with fresh, local produce right through Oct 22, when we say good-by till next year!

Also looking ahead: the annual pumpkin decorating for kids is on Oct 22.

preschool storytime Bring your preschoolers on Fridays at 10:30am to enjoy stories, rhymes, songs, and fun with our children's librarian.

Homework Help Except for school holidays, volunteers will assist students with homework on a drop-in basis. Monday - Thursday from 5 - 7:45pm.

You Art What You Eat at Tutta Bella, Oct 14th!

First Annual Fitness & Strength Competition

Columbia City Fitness Center hosts the First Annual Fitness and Strength Competition at the Rainier Valley Cultural Center (3515 S Alaska St) on Saturday, October 18. This event is open to the anyone to participate. Signup starts at 9am at the door. We are seeking additional sponsors. Community support is welcome!

Call to Artists & Craftspeople

The Columbia City Gallery is preparing for its 3rd Annual Holiday Gift Shop of Contemporary Crafts. We're taking applications from local artists and craftspeople to sell their work on consignment in the gallery. We're looking for artists who create unique, handmade pieces for the holiday gift season.

Register Now for Swing & Waltz Classes

Northwest Dance Network offers classes at the Mt. Baker Community Center, and the fall session begins October 28th. Swing 1, Swing 2 (Slave to the Groove) and Waltz 2 (Turning Tiger, Dancing Dragon) taught by local favorites Sean Donovan and Jodi Fleischman. Classes are on Tuesday evenings at 6:30pm, 7:35pm and 8:30pm. No partner needed. Register online.
