Columbia City Farmers Market
This Wednesday we've got live music from Clallam County. There'll be tons of tasty spring veggies: asparagus, carrots, lettuces, radish, celery, snap peas, sunchokes, baby turnips and beets, cabbage, cauliflower, all kind of greens and flowering greens. And rhubarb — delicious in pies, or just make sauce the same way you make apple sauce (peel, chop, boil, add sweetner) — rhubarb sauce is absolutely delicious alone or with vanilla yogurt or ice cream. Also look for plenty of fresh herbs and garlic chives (you can make a fantastic omelet with chopped, sauteed garlic chives, fresh herbs and some grated cheese — almost any of the goat or cow's milk cheeses at the market is delicious melted). Special treats at the market: Rockridge Orchard's berry and apple granita, chocolate truffles from Trevani, and yummy pastries from our local bakers. — Janet Hurt |
