At the library

Storytime on Friday at 10:30 followed by Bilingual Play and Learn from 11:30-1. Join us for lots of fun!
Frank Abe, film producer, and Elizabeth Carr, librarian, will lead a discussion of No-No Boy, by John Okada, as part of SEED'S Arts Gumbo celebration of Japanese culture Thursday, November 8, from 6:45-7:45 pm. The evening promises a meaningful discussion of the repercussions of Japanese internment. You're welcome to participate even if you haven't read the book.
After-School Teen Gaming on Monday Nov 12 from 4-6 pm. Come by for open play on the Wii and practice your dance skills with Dance Dance Revolution. Check out hot new teen books and enjoy hanging out with your friends. Snacks will be provided and you may win a prize just for showing up!

Wednesday, November 7, Seattle Channel presents Big Night Out, a live variety show taping with

blues guitar queen Del Rey,
Indian tabla master Vishal Nagar,
vocals of Harmonic Voices,
lindy hop madness with Hepcat Prod.,
aerial hoop by Carri Anderson,
comedic genius Rod Long,
and "Fame or Shame" (a crowd pleaser!).

Join us in the fun; bring to-go meals from local eateries, and enjoy beverages served directly from our lounge!

Variety Shows are the spice of night life

And Columbia City has three coming up!

On November 7, Big Night Out comes to the Columbia City Theater.

Big Night Out is Seattle Channel's monthly variety show with host Kevin Joyce. It's part of Art Zone, an innovative, first-in-the-nation TV project that creates programming celebrating local arts and culture and encourages people to go out and take part in the region's rich cultural life in person.

On November 8, Vagabond Opera plays at the Columbia City Theater.

European Cabaret! Vintage Americana! Balkan Belly Dance! Neo-Classical Opera! Old World Yiddish Theater! Based in the Pacific Northwest, yet encompassing the world, Vagabond Opera delivers passionate offerings of Bohemian cabaret. Paris hot Jazz, gut bucket swing, Tangos, Ukrainian folk-punk ballads, Klezmer and vigorous originals meet a world of riverboat gambling queens, Turkish belly dancers, and the enigmatic Marlene Dietrich.

On November 17, All 4 Limbs plays at the RVCC.

A strong woman, a world champion chainsaw juggler, classical musicians, and a 5-time world hackysack champion perform together on one stage. The Brothers from Different Mothers have assembled a dream team of entertainers and you can witness them live one night only.

Board members are appointed by the Mayor and City Council and serve two-year terms which may be renewed once.

Applicants should have:

knowledge of, or interest in, architecture, urban design and the development process;

the ability to listen and communicate effectively at public meetings;

a passion for design and community development;

and the ability to work well with others under pressure.

Prior experience with community or neighborhood groups is a plus. The most successful applicants (e.g. design professional, business owner, residential representative) demonstrate how they understand the concerns of that group, especially as it relates to design.

Application deadline is December 10. Download an application and learn more. Position will open April 4, 2008.
