MEXICO: Governement repression grows against indigenous self-defense forces
U.W. Professor Dr. Filiberto Barajas-López will discuss the autodefensa movement spreading across Michoacán and its roots in traditional self-government, José Luis Avila, husband of political prisoner Nestora Salgado, will explain her role in the indigenous community police forces that are battling drug cartels in Guerrero, and student organizer Miriam Xiomara Padilla will explore the impact of U.S. military aid and international mining interests in the growing conflicts.
