Survey for Orca K-8 playground
We are a group of neighborhood parents, with students at Orca K-8, a local alternative, public school located on 46th Ave. S. in the old Whitworth building. We are working to renovate the existing playground and field on the west side of the school. Cultivating a community gathering space that nourishes and supports the Orca K-8 School and the surrounding neighborhood. We would like input from the community, as many that do not have students at the school, still use the area as a local park.
We want your opinion!
Orca K-8 is located at the former Whitworth Elementary School. Many generations of Southeast Seattle families have strong historical links to the playground. It is the only playground located within a half mile radius. Designed originally for an Elementary school population, the current outdoor areas do not meet the needs of the present community which now include preschool, middle school, and special needs students.
Please take 5 minutes and complete this online survey to help us with initial input for ideas and design. Kids can take it, so can multiple adults from one household. We need your input now, as we have a grant deadline looming!
Informed by growing evidence of the benefits of natural spaces for the well-being of our children and community; we undertake this process that cherishes involvement, ownership and inspires "seeds of change" while incorporating the Orca commitment to healthy families, environmental education, art and sustainability in our community.
As you complete this survey, think about the dreams and ideas that you and your children, grandchildren, neighbors and community share for the playground and play field at Orca K-8. There will be many opportunities for your voice to be heard, this survey is the first.
