eight days in Havana
A Slide Presentation & Talk by Juan Alonso-Rodriguez Juan's mother passed away when he was six, and he left his family a month before his tenth birthday to come to the US. After a 45-year absence, in September 2011 he returned to his birthplace: Havana, Cuba. This was an extremely personal journey back to revisit his old home and rediscover family he had left behind as well as those he had not yet met.
At the Columbia City Gallery, Thursday, Sept 20, 6:30 - 8pm. Free and open to the public.
Armed with his Canon digital camera, he returned with over 800 images. The selected photographs that he'll present at this event will be far from the usual "tourist travelog". These are personal, often haunting images of a place frozen in time and the story of a family unnecessarily separated for far too long.
