The Bel Canto Choir is back
Don't miss a wonderful opportunity this Sunday, Oct 17th at 2pm to experience the musical legacy of Franklin High School as the Bel Canto Choir performs at Daniels Recital Hall downtown at 5th and Marion. The Van Asselt School Choir will also perform.
The original Bel Canto Singers from Franklin High toured Europe 40 years ago with their esteemed director, Dr. Richard Koehler. The group has reformed and added new singers, many also from the Rainier Valley area. And, Dr. Koehler is back to direct this 8-part harmony, 60-member group.
The Bel Cantos will sing some familiar favorites that will include American Western tunes such as Colorado Trail and I'm A Poor Lonesome Cowboy with harmonica and guitar accompaniment. One of the musical features will be Shall We Gather at the River, which will showcase the glorious organ in Daniels Recital Hall. The more formidable selections include Randall Thompson's Alleluia, Lloyd Pfautsch's Reconciliation, and Noble Cain's O Sing Your Songs.
A reception will immediately follow the performance. All proceeds will benefit the Bel Canto Performing Arts Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing opportunities for musical learning, performance and enrichment to people of all ages, ethnicities and socio-economic backgrounds.
General Admission: $15
Seniors 65+ and Teens: $12
Children under 12: Free
