Arts Gumbo - Spirit of Mexico
Experience the sights, sounds and flavors of Mexico on Saturday, September 18 at the Rainier Valley Cultural Center as traditional dance group Joyas Mestizas presents indigenous and courtly dances of Mexico.
Arts Gumbo opens with The Spirit of Mexico on Saturday, Sept 18 at 6pm featuring the regional Mexican dance troupe Joyas Mestizas. Joyas Mestizas performs a dynamic dance set, fusing indigenous and courtly dances of Mexico, garbed in colorful, traditional costumes. Joyas Mestizas includes 30 dancers and is dedicated to promoting awareness, appreciation and understanding of the rich cultures of Mexico and Latin America.
After the dance performance, the group will include the audience in some participatory dances. The event also includes an exhibit of Mexican costumes and handicrafts and a reception where free samples of Mexican pasties and hot chocolate will be offered. Tickets are: $10 general admission, $7 for students and seniors, $5 for children ages 4-18, free for ages 3 and younger, and $25 for families of up to 4 people. Tickets are available at the door and online through Brown Paper Tickets.
