Hi neighbors,
I'm hosting Sheasby Matiure this week, a visiting Zimbabwean musician
who recently got his PhD in ethnomusicology at Indiana University
while on a Fulbright. He's a wonderful teacher, and I've decided to
put on a very last-minute vocal workshop this Wednesday evening from
7-9pm – hopefully somewhere here in the neighborhood. Cost would be
$20 for adults, or $30 for families (parent and child/ren). Sheasby's
touring this summer to make money to get himself back to Zimbabwe.
Sheasby teaches very fun songs, usually in 4-part harmony with a lot
of call and response. He gets you moving to the music, too, which
helps get the rhythm in your body and makes for a little more active
singing workshop than just sitting and singing. You don't need any
previous musical experience, don't need to read music – you just need
a desire to sing and have some fun.
Thanks!
