Looks like construction has started on the NW corner of MLK & South Alaska Street near the Columbia City Light Rail Station. I got a “notice of future land use action” a while back but found it difficult to follow up on (can’t they just put these things online?). Anyone know what’s going to be there?
The land use actions are online. I subscribe to an RSS feed for the south side which is the best i can find for neighborhood notices. Anyway I believe this work is just contaminated soil mitigation. After that I would expect real development.
To find the online location again I did this. 1) go to your favorite search engine 2) search for "city of seattle land use notice" all the top results take you to the correct part of the city's web site.
The work currently being done is just to remove the petroleum contaminated soil from the former Alaska Mini-Mart site and replace it with new, clean fill. Seattle Housing Authority received a grant from the EPA to do the work. They are hoping that having this work done will help with their efforts to develop the site with some sort of mixed use building. Lets hope it does.
