We got home last night to find that we'd been burglarized for the 2nd time in three months. The glass on our kitchen door was broken out and someone walked right in. Nothing appears to be missing except some loose change and maybe an inexpensive mp3 player. We had all our nifty gadgets with us, and my only expensive piece of jewelery was stolen the first time around! The responding officer confirmed that police across Seattle have been getting slammed with home burglary reports over the past few months. He said that most occur during the day when people are away at work, and that most perpetrators are young kids looking for stuff that they can easily grab and run off with. I've never seriously considered a buying home security system before, but now…..?

No way I would live in this neighborhood without one. We always set it…always…even for just a walk around the block. Worth the 40 bucks a month. You can get them installed relatively cheap if you research what to buy and what to avoid. Front and back door alarms and 1 motion detector per room is essentially all you need to cover your home. Definitely worth the investment.
We're in Columbia City west of Rainier, not far from the light rail station. I feel like the few blocks around us have gotten hit hard over the past 4 months or so.
I totally agree. We're just east of Rainier and a few days ago every car down my street was broken into then just this morning everyone's mailboxes were smashed into. There's a couple of businesses on MLK by the light rail who's windows were smashed out.
We have Burdicks and they are responsive and ofcourse close if you need to go down and talk to someone.
ADT. They are decent…got a good deal on the initial install. I also agree with Ole, West of Rainier is becoming a major issue.
Am hopeful that the new apartment buildings @ 37th and Hudson will add some helpful foottraffic west of Rainier.
