A Dog’s Life Doggy Daycare and You-Bathe lets pets play and be pampered
SEATTLE – Columbia City’s newest business owner has floppy ears, four well-groomed paws and commands the Puget Sound’s largest doggy daycare. Seattle entrepreneurs Chris Bias and Barb Smith opened A Dog’s Life Doggy Daycare and You-Bathe this month at 4801 Rainier Ave. S to cater to the bustling community’s busy pet owners. Diego, a 1 1/2-year-old chocolate lab, is there every day, too, making sure the clientele is happy.
“Diego’s a bit like a cruise director, making sure his four-legged friends are having a good time at A Dog’s Life while their humans are away,” Bias said.
It’s the first business partnership for Bias and Smith, who saw Columbia City as the ideal location for their sprawling facility. An up-and-coming urban center, the community is home to a growing number of families and beloved pooches.
“Chris and I opened A Dog’s Life to fit the neighborhood’s lifestyle,” Smith said. “We knew that we could offer something different and useful – a clean, safe, convenient place for dogs to socialize. Additionally, not everyone has the space or desire to wash their pup in the bathtub. And let’s face it, Seattle just doesn’t have enough nice days to run the backyard hose!”
A Dog’s Life serves pet owners’ needs with a daycare, bathing facilities, and separately managed professional grooming and retail establishments in one convenient location with plenty of free parking. Bias and Smith are open early and late to accommodate the schedules of busy working-class folks.
With a 10,000-square-foot building and an additional 1,500-square-foot outdoor play area, it surpasses the competition in scope.
Rubberized mats throughout most of the facility create a comfortable area for dogs and reduce stress on joints as they run, walk and play. Unlike bare concrete, the special surface also helps pets maintain a constant body temperature because there’s no heat transfer when dogs sit or lie down.
A Dog’s Life is also the only doggy daycare and you-bathe facility where you wag tails with Diego.
