Columbia Citizens

The vast majority of people drive to seafair. IMHO they come more from the north (on rainier) or on alaska and completely skip Columbia City and any local interesting businesses. (remember they are coming to watch loud boats drive in circles and drink expensive bad beer - i'm not sure Columbia City has anything in particular to offer them) Especially on sunday you will see them parking in your neighborhood don't expect them to be experiencing your neighborhood. If you're really lucky you'll get to pick up their empties after they preparty in your front yard.

And if you are foolish enough to be driving during seafair you will see some seafair dignitaries block traffic while they get a police escort along genessee, rainier and alaska so that they don't have to deal with the strain that seafair puts on our local arterials.

Then remember that seafair is a private organization who pays trivial fees to rent the park and as far as I can tell just plows that money into the blue angels and not into the neighborhood.

I started this old post 22 Jan 2008. Bumping it up again now, many years later and just a few days after Seafair 2012. Same questions:

• In your eyes, how does Seafair affect Columbia City?
• Are there ways in which the connection can be improved?
• Are there tidbits/trivia/stuff about Seafair that should be better advertised within Columbia City?
• What has the Columbia City Business Association done in the past to connect the crowds associated with Seafair with the business district? Is it working? Is it not working?
