These perennials are called Kniphofia or Red Hot Poker plants. We dug them up today and they are ready for planting. We have enough to start about a dozen new plants. Take one or all.
They may look a little rough today; that's just temporary. Even the runt of this litter will grow into a vigorous plant: after all, all of these also came from one little runt piece. :-)
They will actually survive the transplanting better with a trim "haircut." If you do not have time to plant them yet, no problem. Just wrap the roots in some damp newspaper. A wet towel will also do the trick. They'll wait for you for a few days.
They are hardy, come back every year and are very tolerant of dry conditions.
5110 48th Avenue South: they are out on the sidewalk. Please leave the towel.
