The Friends of Cheasty/Mt. View have had the great fortune of having a group of Seattle University students study Cheasty Greenspace as a civic engagement project this autumn quarter.
The civic problem [as it relates to Cheasty Greenspace] is as follows: The environmental health of Cheasty Greenspace is in danger and the local community is unaware. The class is attempting to increase citizen involvement in the community as well as expand community knowledge of the issues affecting Cheasty Greenspace. By providing citizens with an opportunity to meet with their neighbors and become more aware of the problems that Cheasty Greenspace is facing, they hope to foster long-term citizen involvement.
One key event connected to their service learning efforts is a forest restoration work party this Saturday. See the details for the event below and come out and support these students!
EVENT: Free Cheasty! (Cheasty Greenspace Civic Engagement Event) in partnership with EarthCorps, Saturday, 11/20/10, 10 am - 2 pm, Cheasty Greenspace, Beacon Hill.
For more information on the event and if your schedule allows for your participation, you can sign up on the EarthCorps website<http://www.earthcorps.org/volunteer.php?dateId=834>.
