Use this thread to suggest ideas for new wiki-pages.
How about pages on each of the new housing developments in the greater neighborhood? It'd probably not be hard to get the basic info from the city and post it for discussion by neighbors… and it might lead to some good ideas and concerted action to make sure that all this new housing (welcome in my opinion) is designed and built in a way that improves the neighborhood.
This is a great idea.
It took awhile to make it happen, but here's an example for the St Gobain project.
I haven't heard much about HAL's progress on the Columbia Plaza site. If there are other development proposals in the pipeline, we can build similar pages for them.
I wonder if you could ask for volunteers to write regular updates on various aspects of life here: community meetings, police reports, planning meetings, concerts, restaurant specials, beatwalk, school news, etc. Wouldn't take too many people to make this a lively space and a good resource!
So, I was thinking about more audience participation: As such, would there be some interest in a Photo Caption Contest? Maybe we could do it through Flickr comments? (I wouldn't want to exclude non-Flickr-users.) Maybe a winner once a quarter? Once a month might be too often?
Would there be a prize? Just bragging rights? A coveted spot in the Wikli? A real spot on the wall at the, say, Alehouse or at Lola?
Would vendors in the 'hood provide small prizes?
Would this be lame?
I'm working with a group called the "Healthy and Active Rainier Valley Coalition" and we're interested in promoting culturally relevant projects that increase access to healthy foods and physical activity. We would also like to do more in the realm of health policy. There's a lot going on in the Valley right now and it would be great to have a section where people can learn what's going on thnen ways to give feedback. For example Parks and Recreation will be having open houses coming up for input on the new strategic plan and to meet the new park's director. Right now they have an on-line survey and a listing of upcoming visits: http://www.seattle.gov/parks/Publications/BusinessPlan.htm

Hi Bruno:
We're a wiki about a small neighborhood and not about art per se, though Columbia City is graced with many arts and artists. Columbia Citizens features an art gallery and many, many references to local arts events. Some of them happen at the Columbia City Gallery, and SEEDarts does a lot to inject life and art into the community. As neighbors here, we're certainly fortunate in that respect.
Thanks for asking.
S.
