We all had so much fun at last year's car-free day, and anyone looking for that event might not know that it's been rolled into the Rainier Valley Heritage Parade and Festival: http://www.seattlecan.org/summerstreets/rainier.html
Rainier Ave. will be closed from 11am - 3pm from S. Alaska Street down to S. Orcas Street, same as last year. The parade will run from 11am - 12pm, and then the City is partnering with the Rainier Chamber to host the car-free day. The Bite of the Valley won't happen, but they're hoping local businesses will offer food and activities out on the street.
The biggest change from last year is that they're trying to organize activities by type along Rainier. For example, they'll have fitness activities in one area, art activities in another, music in another, etc. While this takes away a little bit of the wonderful "anarchy" of last year, and the surprise activities that popped up here and there, everyone's welcome to participate in this do-it-yourself street party.
Anyone wanting more info, or help planning your own renegade activity, should contact the Rainier Chamber: moc.rebmahcreiniar|liam#moc.rebmahcreiniar|liam
