Hi there neighbors/gardeners: An update on the Parking strip garden on Edmunds St. by the Farmer's Market….Last weekend a few volunteers started the clean up in the RAIN!!! Today I did a couple of hours of pruning and weeding. There is lots of work to be done. This garden will probably only exist for another two years or so because when the plaza is redeveloped the plants will need to be moved for major ingress/egress kinds of things along Edmunds St. So…let's try and keep it looking as good as it can for the duration of its life.
If you can find an hour or two on a weekend day or during the week, or in the early evening as it's now staying lighter later, grab a friend or go yourself and do an hour or two of weeding. There are lots of weeds, whole areas of weeds, specifically at the west end around the wifi sign and also at the east end near the bike rack. The eastern most barberry still needs to be pruned back about a foot or so. The big wallflower (erysimum) probably needs to be taken out as I think it's mostly dead or at least it needs to be drastically cut back, and the hot pokers need major cleaning up/renovation. If you're not that experienced and not sure what plants I'm talking about or how to do things, stick with weeding.
Next weekend I'm booked but the following weekend and the ones after that too, I plan to get down there for a couple of hours on Sat. and/or Sun. to continue getting it in shape for the season. Any help you can provide will be much appreciated by the neighborhood, and me.
Call with any questions. Thanks, Iris 723-5925, 384-9123
