Columbia Citizens

Hi Neighbors,
Every year I try to make it out to the West Seattle and Greenwood Neighborhood Community Garage Sales. These are two of my favorite spring Seattle community events. Dozens of families host garage/yard sales on the same day. Its a great opportunity to get out in the community, meet neighbors, do some healthy purging if you're selling, or bargaining if you're buying! I think a similar even would be awesome in Columbia City/Hillman City if enough households were interested in doing a garage sale on the same day — perhaps in Mid-May.

What do you all think? Is anyone interested?

I am all for this as well …early or mid May sounds like a good time or even late April.

Last year Sustainable South Seattle organized "Free Stuff Saturdays" where folks just put things they didn't want out and neighbors could roam the neighborhood to find "good stuff" they had a use for. Of course being responsible for whatever of your things didn't get picked up. Maybe the two ideas could be combined in some way? It was sure nice to just put things out front and not have to tend them or deal with cash.

That's a great idea! I hate all the work that goes into having a yard/garage sale but in the past when I had them, I always had an area with items & a sign that said "Free" & my yardsales became known in Spokane for that factor; hence, it brought more customers. We would be glad to give a few things away for free; do you know that Goodwill & some of the other thrift stores or organizations doing free collection pick-ups will not accept certain items even if they are in good condition. So makes one rather hesitant to try to give your things to these organizations if they are going to be so picky; it is rather disheartening to pack everything in a truck, drive to those places, such as Goodwill & they won't take many things so you feel like it was a waste of time & no longer feel like donating to these organizations. I tried joining an online group called Free Cycle but never had much luck with them either. It's quite expensive taking a load to the solid waste sites & hate dumping usable items.
So who else would want to do a Columbia City combined yard sale/free givaway weekend?
