CSAs are great! Support your local organic farmers!
Willie Green's Organic Farm, another Columbia City Farmer's Market
regular, also has a CSA Program for the winter months. Theirs starts
the first week of November and the dropoffs are on Wednesdays at a
private home near the Post Office. More info is available from the
Willie Green's staffers at the market or at www.williegreens.org
What about MacPherson's on Columbia up on Beacon Hill? Their produce is the least expensive around. Do they sell local-raised produce though? I have no idea to what extent what they are selling is local. In any case, they have very good prices.
We've been getting boxes of produce from Full Circle for over a year now, previously on Capitol Hill, and now down here in our new neighborhood of C City. It's a great service. You can swap out up to 5 items with an alternate selection (or double certain items) in each box, via a form on their website. They are also super responsive and helpful whenever I have emailed or telephoned (as in, oops I forgot to get my box, where is the 2nd chance location!).
Now that the Farmer's Market is closed for the season, Full Circle is a great way to get fresh organic produce. Note that they do source some of their produce from other farms, both in Washington state, and sometimes California or other places. So it's not entirely only local produce, although they do mark which items are grown on their farm, and in Washington state.
They also supply many of the local organic markets (Madison Market on Cap Hill, I believe also PCC).
We have been getting a Helsing Junction Box for a few years now. It is all grown outside of Centralia, and is a pretty good deal. They have pickup sites on Beacon Hill and over near Seward Park.
My biggest beef (and this goes for Full Circle as well) is that they deliver the day AFTER the Farmer's market. I wish it were the other way round so we could use the FM to supplement the box instead of buying at the FM and hoping that we don't get repeats in the box the next day.
