That's a big problem with running light rail to the airport. Who wants to drag all their luggage to and from the train? Had they run it to Southcenter, it would get a ton of riders. But it's probably better than taking the bus, which requires going downtown and transferring. Plus buses are currently more crowded than light rail. We took buses home from the airport once. We each had only one large handbag but it was still difficult.

A couple of weeks ago, my family and I were toting a whole caravan of luggage through the neighborhood on foot to the Link station. How else do you get to the airport? None of our neighbors was available to drive us to the station, and it seemed ridiculous to drive there in our car, drop off luggage and people, drive home and park, then run back to the station.

A random neighbor — whose name I learned and then promptly forgot — drove by, rolled down her window, and offered us a ride the remaining four blocks. We gratefully accepted! (Thank you again!)

What a great idea! Never mind the possible ideas my toddler son is forming about the wisdom of hopping into cars with strangers — I can explain this one.

Tonight I had the unexpected chance to pay it forward. Two people walking down my block, steering what had to have been a couple of hundred pounds of suitcases. Once they got clear on my offer ("You're going to drive us to the airport?" "No, just the train station.") they took me up on it quickly.

So here's my challenge/exhortation to the CC faithful: see someone with suitcases headed to or from the train? Offer them a ride!
