Um, its Farmers Market day and I just saw a parent hold their child up next to a tree in Columbia Park while the child peed and POOPED. Then they picked it up in a plastic baggie. Although I am very grateful that they picked it up, the whole thing was very disturbing and I am left wondering if this is a new trend. Is this acceptable parent behavior?

Classes will be on Saturdays starting July 10 and run through Sept. 11. We've suffered through flakey teen instructors since Tyrone left to seek his fortune in LA but he's back at the Rainier Beach Community Center. Classes run about $45-55 and this guy knows what he's doing. He is great with kids and parents.

I'm posting this only as a parent who was a satisfied customer for the several years my daughter took his classes and I wanted to spread the word. I've watched him encourage the shy kids, push the lazy ones and get the talented ones to reach even higher. He choses family-friendly music and won't tolerate misbehavior. The classes are split up by age-6-12 in one class at 12:30-1:30, 13-17 at 1:30 - 2:30 and the adult class at 11:30 - 12:30.

Interested in growing food and helping kids understand where their food comes from? Come share your ideas for our new community learning garden in Rainier Beach!

On Tuesday, April 20, the Rainier Beach Learning Garden Steering Committee will host the second of 3 meetings to design the expanded garden. The meeting will take place at South Shore School from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. We will compare several designs and share ideas for making the garden an inviting and educational space for friends and neighbors of all ages. Dinner and childcare will be provided. Translation services available upon request.

The Rainier Beach Learning Garden is a partnership between Seattle Tilth, Seattle Parks, South Shore PTSA, South Shore PreK-8, Rainier Beach Community Center, New School Foundation and Kids Co. It is located behind South Shore School next to the tennis courts and gives kids and adults a place to grow food while learning about healthy eating and environmental stewardship.

Last August, a local landscape firm, In Harmony Sustainable Landscapes, helped 50 volunteers build 6 raised beds to start the garden. Since then, Seattle Tilth has been teaching kids and adults to love bugs, grow food and explore the natural world through hands-on science.

We recently received a matching grant from Department of Neighborhoods to expand the garden, teach the latest techniques in urban gardening and help more people grow their own food.

For more information, contact Sharon Lerman at gro.htlitelttaes|namrelnorahs#gro.htlitelttaes|namrelnorahs.
My husband and I are going out of town in March twice and are in need of a reliable, experience pet sitter for our two cats and two dogs (6 yr old Husky mix and 1 yr old Pit Bull mix).

We'd prefer someone reliable to stay in our house and care for our pets, since the dogs specifically require a lot of management. Because of the breed of our youngest dog, we need an experienced sitter who knows how to give strong commands and likes to exercise with the dogs. Both dogs are trained and know basic commands, can walk on a leash and know their routine.

I can't emphasize enough that we need a RELIABLE and EXPERIENCED sitter. Our pets are our children and it's imperative that we get someone capable to handle them. They are sweet, wonderful pets and we're looking for someone who will enjoy taking care of them.

Does anyone have any recommendations or suggestions? Greatly appreciated!
