Piano Lessons: Lessons for Children and Adults

At the Susanna Valleau Piano Studio, we believe in structured teaching infused with fun. Learning to play the piano requires commitment, but it should never be tedious. With the right teacher, anyone can learn to play — and look forward to each lesson.

There are a few openings for lessons in my piano studio! No matter your age or your ability, we can help you meet your needs and your goals as a pianist.

Experience has taught us that every student is different. Each one deserves piano lessons created around his or her skill level, learning style, future goals, and musical interests.

At my studio, students begin with the basics and receive a well-rounded musical education – from how to sit and position their hands, to sight-reading, to a little music theory to put it all together. Within two to six months, students master enough of the fundamentals to help choose their musical repertoire for future lessons.

Through it all, we mix in some fun — relevant games and learning incentives, even occasional music outings — to keep our students engaged.

Visit www.PianoWithSusanna.com for more information, and reach out to schedule your free trial lesson!

Hello Columbia City,

We are former Columbia Citizens, living overseas and have rented our home out. We're coming back to Seattle for a visit in June and July, and would love to stay in the neighborhood. We really miss it! We're older (uh, let's just say, somewhere north of 40), we're homeowners and we're good around the house, we like to garden, we love animals, we're fairly quiet but do bust out the ukuleles from time to time. We can give you referrals from other Columbia Citizens.

If you, or anyone you know, is leaving on vacation and needs someone to take care of things, please drop a line or call: (540) 246-2848. Thanks.

Joanne Lauterjung Kelly
Matt Kelly

Based on earlier recommendations posted to the wiki, I hired David Vlasaty to come in and fix a few nagging problems around my old house. He fixed a stairway/railing issue, a shower enclosure problem, an old door, a table and a couple of other things. He did a great job—he was thorough, efficient, reasonably priced and super pleasant to deal with. I was really pleased with his work and highly recommend him. His number is 852-7289.

computer (iMac) help

Not a newbie, but I need reformatting help with a controversial website, which now transmits in very muddled fashion to other people's computers, and also with the blog I tried to set up (for comment and feedback). "Easy Wizard" said I could do it in a few hours. It's been three months now, and I'm tired of batting my head against a brick wall. Besides, spring is here: time for a great leap forward!

I resurrected my website (<reenchantmentofsex.com> and no, it's not a porn site) from an electronic black hole three months back — have had a devil of a time ever since, reformatting it to transmit cleanly to other folks' computers. So far, what they get is a horrible formatting mess, which really kills me as I worked very hard to say things — admittedly, some difficult things — in as clear a fashion as possible. I wanted my readers to think long and hard, not to struggle just to make out my words. And trying to set up a blog (for reader comment and feedback) has been even more of a nightmare; I thought I'd succeeded, then went and changed a vital setting, and now the blog doesn't function. Sooo, with summer vacation coming up, it occurs to me that maybe there's a computer-savvy teenager (or older??) out there who'd like to earn extra $$$ assisting me in the project. Not that I need constant handholding (I even know some HTML) but I do keep on running into trouble … staying up all night with phone tech support, thinking I've solved the problem … and finding that I'd just made matters worse … It would be wonderful if I could find someone in the neighborhood (I'm just two blocks from the PCC) I could turn to for the help I should have asked for months ago… Oh. and expertise with audiofiles would be nice too. But the main thing is figuring out how I've mucked up the whole website-and-blog thing. Give me a call at (206) 721 4940 if you think you can help. And name your price. You'll be worth every penny if you can make technology work for me — get the conversation going (on "gender difference") that I tried to start over two decades ago.

Mark Wiseman is awesome. (206) 948-1060

Our refrigerator decided not to make any more cold air for the fridge part. The freezer was still freezing but we know it would likely go next. I looked up appliance repair via the Yelp map (98118) and initially spotted his brother Scott Wiseman. As it turns out, Scott only services West Seattle. Scott gave me Mark's number. It took us a few phone-tag-tries in about a 12-hour time frame to finally connect.

Mark asked specific questions over the phone such that he already knew what the issue probably would be. This was helpful as he could then also give us a price estimate. It was a reasonable amount, especially compared to the price of a brand new fridge. He came out and indeedeedoo: he was right on the money with the diagnosis and the price.

As others have said: a very capable and nice guy. He was personable and considerate: for example, we agreed on an appointment time and he called us with a 20-minute courtesy call that he'd soon be here. He was here right on time. This is helpful any day and especially early on a Saturday.

Not only did he fix the Maytag, but he also gave us tips on keeping it healthy. He also warned us of a part that might not work perfectly (the water feed to the automatic ice maker), told us to keep an eye on it, and call him if it went wonky. That was the only part where he was wrong: it DID too work perfectly.
