Neighborhood-based soccer club

• Soccer is a highly multicultural sport.
• Games are notoriously far-flung across the City and beyond.
• Participation in most teams requires a car.
• inconvenient to soccer commute
• difficult for poorer residents
• limiting for soccer-parents
• counter-intuitive that a choice for activity (playing) requires so much inactivity (driving).
• Coordinate with the Parks department to set aside time slots for neighborhood-specific play, in which neighbors pull together into teams and play within the neighborhood or in adjoining neighborhoods.
  • Parks might give preference for priority time slots to neighborhood teams.
• Reduces traffic.
• Provides for greater autonomy for teens/parents and people without cars.
• Provides for increased activity before and after games and practices.
