Welcome Columbia Citizens

This is a community website

It's freely accessible and ready to help you engage with your neighborhood — meet people, start discussions, share what you know, organize events, and get involved in Columbia City.

See what you can do here.

To take part, you're welcome to create a free Wikidot account, but you don't have to.

To edit a page, just click the edit button at the top of the sidebar. You can change everything in the main area of the page. It's pretty intuitive, and simple edits are straightforward. You can dress it up with bells & whistles, but simple is also good.

Every page has a history of edits, and you can undo anything. So don't worry about messing anything up.

Got an idea? Let's put this site to work.

Night Out block parties1216565626|%O ago

August 5, Night Out is a national crime prevention event. Here it's a great excuse to close down a street, throw a block party, and connect again with neighbors.

Night Out
  • Want to join in? Several neighbors have created pages with details of their events.
  • Can you help out? If you've got a grill to share, a table to loan, or an hour to drop notes with neighbors, you can update your block party's page. That way it's easy to tell what's already covered.

The map shows nearby Night Out parties you can choose from.

Two casual weekend events for Columbia Citizens. You're invited to either one, or both.

Hang out in the shade with neighbors at a picnic on the green at Columbia Park, Saturday July 19, at noon. We'll spread some blankets on the west bank, toward the library. We can toss a few balls and frisbees into the mix.

At about 1:30, starting from the park, we'll take a Then & Now-style walk, with packets of historic photos to compare past perspectives with today's. Mikala Woodward has many surprising and amusing stories to share, and hopefully neighbors will lend their own insights. This is a chance to learn about this place we share, meet some neighbors, and stretch our legs. We'll post the route in the next couple days.

So where was this photo taken? Imagine looking toward Rainier & Edmunds from the farmers market. Instead of a parking lot, can you imagine this tree perched atop a hill?
