Next up in our popular From Reel to Real live event series is an evening with author Garth Stein who will be reading from his novel, The Art of Racing in the Rain and talking about life as a New York times best selling author.

A heart-wrenching but deeply funny and ultimately uplifting story of family, love, loyalty, and hope, The Art of Racing in the Rain is a beautifully crafted and captivating look at the wonders and absurdities of human life… as only a dog could tell it.

Joining Garth will be the Cinema's own Paul Doyle, reading from his novel Nioka, Bride of Bigfoot, one woman's eco-adventure set in the Pacific NW rainforest.

Garth Stein is the author of three novels including How Evan Broke His Head and Other Secrets, winner of a 2006 PNBA Book Award, and Raven Stole the Moon; he has also written a full-length play, Brother Jones. He worked as a documentary filmmaker for several years, co-producing The Last Party, starring Robert Downey, Jr. In addition, he has directed and/or produced several other films including When Your Head's Not a Head, It’s a Nut, which aired nationally on PBS and was awarded a gold medal by the International Epilepsy Foundation. Garth teaches fiction to writers from second grade to adult. He makes his home in Seattle with his wife, three sons, and his dog, Comet.

Our local treasure, Bookworm Exchange, will have copies of Garth's books for sale.

Paul Doyle is the owner of Columbia City Cinema, one of the last remaining independent cinemas in Seattle. Paul previously owned Grand Illusion Cinema (Seattle), the Grand Cinema (Tacoma) and The Pickford (Bellingham).
